The IK Investment Partners’ Finnish-American scholarship, worth 25,000 Euros, has this year been granted to Rasmus Molander, a 27-year-old civil engineer. IK grants the scholarship to a talented Finnish graduate student already for the seventh time.

Björn Savén, Executive Chairman of IK Investment Partners, says he is very satisfied with being once again able to grant the scholarship to a talented Finnish young person, whose achievements prove of an exceptional talent. For IK celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year, the Finnish-American scholarship has been an excellent way of distributing international top knowledge for the benefit of Finnish business.

“This is already the second time we grant the scholarship to a Finn for studying at Harvard,” he says. “We gladly support the international aspirations of Finnish young people, since IK has all long emphasised the importance of international knowledge and experience in its own business operations. That is how we have in 20 years grown from a Nordic company to a renowned European private equity firm.”

Rasmus Molander will use the scholarship to pursue a two-year-long MBA degree at Harvard University. Molander, originally from Helsinki, graduated with a distinction from the Helsinki University of Technology (Department of Industrial Engineering and Management) in 2005. Since then, he has worked as project manager at the Boston Consulting Group, focusing on health care. This summer, between the academic years of the MBA degree, he has been working on a health care project. While granting the scholarship, IK in particular appreciated Molander’s interest in health care. After his studies, Molander wishes to focus on developing the health care sector particularly in the Nordic countries and Europe.

“I am very grateful to IK for all the interest and support they have shown towards my studies,” says Rasmus Molander.

IK Finnish-American scholarship
Rasmus Molander is the seventh recipient of the Finnish-American scholarship. The scholarship was instituted in 2000, and has since provided exceptional young Finnish business or engineering students with the opportunity to broaden their academic and international perspective with studies at top universities in the United States. The scholarship is administered by the League of Finnish-American Societies Foundation.

In previous years, the scholarship has been granted three times for an MBA degree, to Pasi Tolmunen in 2001) and Aki Kettunen in 2002, for studies at Tulane University in New Orleans, and last year to Antti Hovila for studying an MBA degree at the Harvard Business School. In 2003, the scholarship was granted to Nelli Öster for a PhD in Finance at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Erkko Etula received the scholarship for a PhD programme at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2005. Matti Lannetta received the 2006 scholarship for a Master of Science degree at Indiana University.
