IK Investment Partners (“IK”), the Nordic and European private equity firm, is pleased to announce that Anders Häggman, a 28-year-old mechanical engineer from Espoo in Finland, has been awarded the IK Finnish American Scholarship, worth EUR 25,000, marking the eighth time a talented Finnish graduate has received the grant.

Anders Häggman will use the scholarship for post-graduate studies at the world-renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States. With his dissertation, Häggman aims to improve multi-disciplinary and decentralised product development processes, leading to a more user-friendly end product.

Häggman graduated from the Helsinki University of Technology (Department of Mechanical Engineering) in 2009. Since then, he has worked as a researcher and teacher at the Aalto University Design Factory and taken part in a project looking at problems in product development in small and medium-sized enterprises.

Commenting on the award, Anders Häggman said: “I am very grateful to IK for their support and for the interest they have shown towards my studies.  This grant has provided me with the opportunity to study and continue my research at one of the world’s greatest universities, something I could have only dreamt about before.”

Björn Savén, Executive Chairman at IK Investment Partners, commented: “IK is proud to support the international aspirations of Finland’s next generation of business leaders, and this Scholarship continues to recognise and reward the exceptionally talented, such as Mr. Häggman.  From our own experience in various international markets, IK understands the importance of disseminating technological innovation and knowledge across global borders to achieve operational excellence.  We look forward to following the future achievements of Mr. Häggman and wish him every success with this well-deserved grant”.

Anders Häggman is the eighth recipient of the IK Finnish-American Scholarship. The Scholarship was established in 2000, and has since provided exceptional young Finnish engineering or business students with the opportunity to broaden their academic and international perspective with studies at top universities in the United States. The scholarship is administered by the League of Finnish-American Societies Foundation.
